Quiksilver Pro NY Concert Line Up Announced: The Flaming Lips Free Show September 9, 2011 Long Beach NY
The Quiksilver Pro New York competition is the first Association of Surfing Professionals world tour event ever held on the East Coast, and will be broadcast nationally on MSG Networks and the music network Fuse. Thirty-four of the world’s top surfers — including Kelly Slater and local pro surfer Balaram Stack — will vie for an unprecedented $1 million prize purse, and the winner will pocket a cool $300,000.

"According to Quiksilver, shows are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. daily at the music stage. Organizers said that the live site — which will be open to the public at no cost — will have a capacity of about 20,000 people.
City Manager Charles Theofan said that the event is going to be “phenomenal,” and said that as the Quiksilver Pro New York draws closer, he has noticed a growing enthusiasm among Long Beach residents.
“It’s going to be great,” he said. “You know what’s nice? As the buzz is growing louder, we see more and more people are seeing this in a positive light, and are getting really excited about it.”
